Syrian Hamster (Mesocricetus auratus) is sometimes referred to as Golden Hamsters because of their natural coloring found in the wild.

Syrian Hamsters are by far the most popular and widely available hamster available in stores today. Syrian Hamsters have been bred to produce a wide range of colorings including black, beige, calico, grey, and white. They are available as shorthaired or longhaired with longhaired varieties often referred to as teddy bear. Syrian hamsters can be quite territorial so they do best being kept solitary enclosure after 10 weeks of age.
